A 3-day Northern lights and Golden circle Winter tour.
In this 3-day Northern lights and Golden circle tour, you will get the chance to hunt for the Northern lights and explore some of Iceland’s most iconic attractions. A perfect tour for a short stopover, or layover, in Iceland during winter.
The tour
This 3-day Northern Lights and Golden Circle winter self-drive tour in Iceland offers a great way to experience Iceland’s stunning natural beauty and the Northern lights, in a short stop in Iceland. This itinerary allows you to explore the magical landscapes of Iceland at your own pace, combining the thrill of chasing the Northern Lights with visits to some of Iceland’s most iconic sites along the Golden Circle.
Upon arriving at KeflavÃk International Airport, pick up your rental car and drive to ReykjavÃk, Iceland’s capital. In ReykjavÃk you can spend the rest of the day exploring this vibrant and beautiful city. Enjoy the panoramic views over the city from HallgrÃmskirkja Church tower, and wander around the streets of the downtown area exploring art galleries, shops, and cafés. A walk around the old harbor area is also a popular way to spend the day. Adding a visit to Harpan concert hall and the Sun Voyager sculpture to top it up.
There are many great exhibitions and museums around the ReykjavÃk area that you can add to your stay. Some of the recommendations would be, Perlan Exhibition, FlyOver Iceland, Lava Show, Whales of Iceland, Auroras exhibition, to name a few. Make the day perfect with a dip into the popular geothermal pools at the Sky Lagoon.
The Golden Circle is renowned for its breathtaking sights, including Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet. This geological marvel also holds significant historical importance as the site of Iceland’s first parliament. Continue your journey to the Geysir Geothermal Area, home to the famous Strokkur geyser, which erupts every few minutes, creating a spectacular display of boiling water shooting into the sky. The final highlight of the Golden Circle is Gullfoss, the “Golden Falls,” a powerful waterfall where the HvÃtá river cascades into a deep canyon, offering dramatic views and photo opportunities.
Please note
Adding optional activities may change the itinerary slightly. If you plan on traveling between October and end of March, please select a 4WD/4X4 rental car as we do not provide 2WD rental cars during winter.
