Day 1

Arrival at Keflavík International airport, pick up rental car and drive to Reykjavík where you will settle in at your accommodation. Km driven: 50

Day 2

After breakfast you will explore the famous Golden Circle of Iceland. Your first stop will be at Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Þingvellir holds a special place in the minds of the Icelandic nation as it is the birthplace of our culture and where chieftains gathered in the olden days to discuss political matters. It is also a geological wonder as the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are literally pulling it apart, creating an immense rift valley. You can even go for an optional snorkeling session between the continents. Next up is the Geysir geothermal area and the spouting hot spring Strokkur. After that you will drive to the iconic Gullfoss waterfall for some great photo opportunities. On your way to Selfoss you can stop by the volcanic crater Kerið. If you still have energy you can take a nice hike to Reykjadalur and bathe in the geothermal river that runs through the valley before heading back to Reykjavík. Km driven: 235

Day 3

Today you will be driving to Húsafell and explore some of the western part of Iceland. On your way to Húsafell you will stop by the beautiful Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls as well as many other interesting sites. In Húsafell you have the option to join an Ice cave expedition to Langjökull glacier, a truly memorable adventure. If you want to drive up to and explore Langjökull on your own, you will need a vehicle that is allowed to be driven on F-roads. In the summer time, when the days are long, you can go for a hike to Glymur waterfall in Hvalfjörður fjord on your way back to Reykjavík. The hike, however, is not the easiest so it is necessary to be in good physical condition. Afterwards you can enjoy a relaxing evening at your accommodation in Reykjavík. Km driven: 280

Day 4

On this day you will be exploring the Reykjanes peninsula. You will start your day by driving towards Garðskagaviti, where you can enjoy the scenery, and if you like bird watching, Garðskagaviti is the perfect palce for you. You will than head to Gunnuhver a geothermal mud pool area. Next up is Grindavík where we highly recommend a visit to the Blue lagoon. Note that tickets to the lagoon are limited so we urge you to book well in advance. In Grindavík you can go for an optional ATV tour in the vast lava fields that distinguish the area. Afterwards you will continue your journey along the south coast of the peninsula. The moss covered lava fields and the contrasting colors of the mountains really make this route one of the most beautiful trails in Iceland. After a short drive you will turn left towards Krýsuvík there you can visit the geothermal area Seltún and a little ways further is the lake Kleifarvatn. The landscape by Kleifarvatn is quite barren so it almost feels as if you are driving on the moon. You will then turn back and head towards the village of Þorlákshöfn. There you can go for an optional RIB safari or an ATV tour on the black sand beach. Afterwards you will head back to Reykjavík and enjoy the rest of the day. Km driven: 245

Day 5

Drive to Keflavík International airport, return rental car and departure. You can also add optional activities to this day depending on your departure time. Km driven: 50
