Self-drive tours are the best way to experience all that Iceland has to offer. This way you are in full control of the journey, no hassle and no crowded buses!

Arrival at Keflavík airport. Pick up your rental car at the airport and start your adventure. Head South towards the town Grindavík on the Reykjanes peninsula. Depending on your arrival time an optional visit to the Blue Lagoon is highly recommended, but please note that you have to book well in advance. You will drive along the South coast of the peninsula until you reach your first accommodation, which will be in the greater Selfoss area. Km driven: 110
You will start your day by driving to Reykjadalur valley just north of the village Hveragerði. There you will take a short hike towards the geothermal river running through the valley and take a warm relaxing bath under the open air. Once you return to your car you will embark on the famous Golden Circle tourist route. Your first stop will be at Þingvellir National park a UNESCO World Heritage Site and witness the North-American and Eurasian tectonic plates literally drifting apart creating this beautiful rift valley. Here you can add an optional snorkeling session in Silfra and swim between the two tectonic plates. Next up is the spouting hot spring Strokkur in Haukadalur valley before heading to the picturesque waterfall Gullfoss, where you can take a leisurely walk down to the cascading river and take in the stunning view. Your accommodation for the night will be in the Hella area. Km driven: 190
After breakfast you will make your way to Seljalandsfoss waterfall and take a short walk behind it for a unique photo opportunity. You will then proceed to Skógafoss waterfall just a short drive away. There you can walk to the top of the waterfall for an amazing view. Next up is the famous plane wreck at Sólheimasandur beach before heading to Reynisfjara black sand beach. Your accommodation for the night will be around the Skaftafell area. Km driven: 230
Today you will head to Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and see the magnificent icebergs that crumble from the Vatnajökull glacier and slowly float towards the North Atlantic ocean. An optional boat ride on the lagoon is available upon request. An optional glacier walk is also available if you feel up to it. You will then proceed Eastbound to the charming village of Djúpivogur and onwards to the small village of Breiðdalsvík where you can go for an optional fishing expedition in an old oak boat. You will spend the night in the East fjords area surrounded by stunning mountains. Km driven: 330
Take the day early and head to the waterfall Dettifoss with a stop at the haunted Möðruvellir in the highlands. Then you will proceed to the town Húsavík where you can go for an optional whale watching tour and/or visit to the whale museum. Enjoy a relaxing evening in Húsavík and spend the night. Km driven: 295
Your first stop of the day will be at the beautiful lake Mývatn which is known for its magnificent nature and geothermal activity. You will then head to the powerful waterfall Goðafoss before heading to the capital of North Iceland, Akureyri. There you can go for an optional whale watching tour. You will then proceed to Skagafjörður area where you will spend the night. In Skagafjörður an optional horse riding tour can be arranged. Km driven: 240
You will start making your way to Reykjavík where you will spend your final night. You will head straight to the Borgarfjörður area where you will visit the magical Reykholt and the Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls. You can also make a stop at Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring. Húsafell is a short drive away where you can join an exciting tour to the man made ice cave. Afterwards you head to Reykjavík, Iceland’s capital, where you will retire for the night. Km driven: 375
Depart to Keflavík airport and car rental return. Depending on your flight schedule we recommend a stop at the amazing Blue Lagoon, that is if you didn’t get a chance to go on day 1. Please note that tickets are limited so we recommend you book well in advance.
